Jay Painter Joins The Fennec as Restaurant Manager

Jay Painter
Jay Painter, Restaurant Manager

Hailing from Gardendale, Alabama, Jay’s journey in food and beverage began while he was pursuing his bachelor’s degree at The University of Alabama. Starting his career in 2011, Jay’s expertise spans all aspects of restaurant operations, from pouring the perfect drink to working alongside some of Birmingham’s finest chefs.

In 2015, Jay co-founded Iron City Organics, a local food distribution company supplying Alabama’s finest eateries with top tier microgreens and produce. Iron City Organics sadly closed its doors due to the pandemic. Undeterred, Jay embraced a new challenge as Beverage Director at The Grand Bohemian Hotel, creating a cocktail culture with his innovative southern-style approach to mixology. Jay is a Master Bar Keeper.

Jay’s unique background and attention to detail will allow him to succeed in his new role at The Fennec. He has many interesting ideas and will have a unique approach to helping our restaurant continue to raise the bar with our service and professionalism.

When he’s not creating unforgettable experiences for his guests, Jay enjoys motorcycles, comedy podcasts, and spending time with his wife and their three beloved dogs.

Please join me in welcoming and congratulating Jay in his new role at The Fennec.

New Brunch Menu for Saturday and Sunday

We’ve promoted brunch at the Fennec for multiple different holidays, including Easter and Mother’s Day. It doesn’t have to be a holiday, though, for you to celebrate brunch. The Fennec has a new Brunch menu for both Saturday and Sunday morning, starting at 11am.

We have a whole new set of appetizers, including beignets covered in banana fosters sauce. Our avocado toast comes on a slice of delicious sourdough bread with fresh sliced avocados, pickled vegetables, and blistered tomatoes. We also are serving our seasonal French toast too, that comes with four half pieces of battered Texas toast, strawberries, blackberries, powdered sugar, whipped cream, maple syrup.

One of our most interesting new dishes is the Crab Cake Benedict. This entrée consists of 2 lump crab cakes topped with poached eggs and hollandaise. The hollandaise really adds such an interesting flavor to the crab with hints of lemon.

Our version of Chicken and Waffles is quite remarkable too. Our chicken is drizzled with honey sriracha sauce which contrasts well with the maple syrup that we have used on our house made vanilla bean waffles.

For a taste of the Old South try our delicious home cooked grits from McEwen and Sons. These are the creamiest grits and are also great to have on the side of your main entrée! We are serving up our seasonal vegetable medley as well! To top it all off, you need to try our famous and iconic Bloody Mary. The recipe includes a signature tomato sauce mix with Redmont vodka. This drink wakes you up and prepares you for your weekend!

Birmingham bars, police encourage ridesharing during New Year’s weekend

Staff at The Fennec said they’re expecting 3,500 customers over the course of the weekend.

“We really wanted to bring something to Birmingham that we haven’t been able to do yet,” Paolo Camero, beverage director at The Fennec, said. “All three of the bars, we’ve got great regulars, we’ve got a great sort of crowd that comes in and I know that there’s a good group of people that are coming in from Tuscaloosa, from Auburn that I’ve spoken with so I’m just really excited to see this place alive.”

Dessert at The Fennec

Our menu at The Fennec is quite delicious. We’ve perfected our entrees, appetizers, and specialty cocktails, but we have become especially proud of our new dessert menu. Each of our desserts are homemade and any of them would sweetly cap off of your dining experience at The Fennec!

We have a spectacular Berry Tartlet that is served in a flakey buttery dough accompanied by house-made whipped cream. This sweet treat leaves a delicious fruity aftertaste in your mouth and ends your meal on a high note.

Our Bourbon Pecan Pie is genuinely one of our favorite ways to end a dinner. It is sweet and savory as hot toasted pecans can be found throughout this sweet treat.

A classic chocolate ice cream dessert is absolutely a fan favorite, and so we decided to add our homemade dark chocolate ice cream to the menu! This serving has a few scoops, served with a wafer cookie and raspberry drizzle.

Last, but definitely not least, the White Chocolate Pot de Creme is stunning. It is a perfect finishing bite and comes served with a spicy cherry compote. We recommend this sugary dessert after any of our hearty meals, as it just sits so well on the stomach!

Come try and of these fantastic and unique desserts at The Fennec!
