Are you a cocktail connoisseur? The city of Birmingham has created a new summer program just for you. Each Wednesday this summer, from 4-7PM, you can join in Magic City Sips. This Birmingham-specific happy hour features specialty drink and food items at local restaurants and bars. Started by the Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity, Sips provides a fun opportunity to support our city’s businesses during the week.

Magic City Sips is Birmingham’s Department of Innovation and Economic Opportunity first-ever food and drink series. Nine local bars and restaurants will host their own happy hour specials from 4 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday. Participating businesses include The Fennec.

The series culminates in a voting competition among patrons starting in August. The business with the most votes will be rewarded with the Sippy Cup Award in September, which is based on scores in various categories including Best Cocktail, Best Happy Hour Appetizer and Best Vibe.

A new initiative to help Birmingham restaurants bring more customers to their doors, launched on Wednesday, May 31.

More than a dozen local spots (including The Fennec) are participating in the new “Magic City Sips” competition, where each week you can find different specials on Wednesdays.

Each Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., local bars or restaurants will have different food and drink specials. You can find the deals on each spot’s Instagram, or the Birmingham Innovation and Economic Opportunity social media, and leaders want you to try them all.

The series will go on weekly until August, and at the end, customers will get to vote on different awards for the businesses; best drink, best deal, or best food.
